At Camp Dreamland, the mission extends beyond fun and adventure—it’s about connection, understanding, and hope. Recently, Frontier Horizon board member Mike Brady facilitated a unique virtual cultural exchange between 80 Ukrainian children and participating Boulder Interact (Rotary) students from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado, through a live Zoom call.
The session was filled with curiosity and shared experiences as students from both countries discovered common interests in food, music, and sports. Conversations ranged from favorite meals—pizza, ice cream, and pasta ranked high on both sides—to learning about traditional Ukrainian dishes like borsch. The Ukrainian students also shared insights into local holidays, including Ivana Kupala, a festival filled with folklore and symbolic rituals.
The discussion also touched on education and language learning. While the American students spoke about their school schedules and language studies in Spanish, French, and Latin, the Ukrainian children expressed excitement about the exchange and interest in American culture.
Beyond words, the session fostered real connections. The Ukrainian children, many of whom have been displaced by war, found joy in engaging with peers across the world, while the American students gained a deeper understanding of their resilience.
The call concluded with gratitude, well wishes, and a promise to continue building these bridges—a testament to the power of human connection, even across thousands of miles.
We thank the Boulder Interact participants for generously raising $3600 for Camp Dreamland and for participating in this extraordinary exchange.
