Last week, our team in Nicaragua received a heartbreaking update: 8-year-old Sofia had been rushed to the hospital. Her mother said she’d cried all night, not just from stomach pain, but because her “heart ached too.”
Doctors diagnosed Sofia with a urinary tract infection, anemia, malnutrition, and parasites. A devastating list—especially for someone so young.
Thanks to generous donors like you, Frontier Horizon was able to cover the cost of her medical care. But this isn’t just a story about one illness. It’s a powerful reminder of the ongoing crisis facing children like Sofia every day. And it’s why we urgently need your help.
A Family Struggling to Be Heard
Sofia lives in City Sandino, Nicaragua, with her two sisters—Brittany (10) and Belinda (4)—and their parents, Irma and Ramon, who are both deaf. Communication is layered and complex, but the emotion behind it is raw and unmistakable. When our founder Vinny met with the family, messages traveled from hands, to Spanish, to English—and straight to the heart.
Irma cleans a local school in exchange for her youngest daughter’s tuition. Ramon works long hours at a Walmart warehouse earning about $213 a month. It’s barely enough to survive. Since the passing of their grandmother, Brittany and Sofia can no longer attend the private school that once gave them hope. At times, their mother tearfully admitted, they go to bed hungry.
You Can Be the Difference
We’re working to secure monthly sponsorships for all three girls to:
-
Return to school
-
Receive consistent, healthy meals
-
Ensure access to basic medical care
-
Break the cycle of generational poverty
Your monthly gift can transform their future. Just ask Abby, our translator in Nicaragua, who grew up in a similar situation:
“Education is a lifeline. It gives us the voice to be heard, the vision to see beyond our circumstances, and the strength to break the cycle.”
Will You Say Yes to the rodriguez family?
These children need more than one-time relief. They need a steady hand, a consistent advocate, and someone willing to say, “I see you—and I’m here.” That someone can be you.
Together, we can build a brighter tomorrow—one child at a time.
